Don Juan Matuus said,

"You must stop talking to yourself. Every one of us does that. We carry on an internal talk. We talk about our world. In fact we maintain our world with our internal talk. Whenever we finish talking to ourselves the world is always as it should be. We renew it, we kindle it with life, we uphold it with our internal talk. Not only that, but we also choose our paths as we talk to ourselves. Thus we repeat the same choices over and over until the day we die, because we keep on repeating the same internal talk over and over until the day we die. A warrior is aware of this and strives to stop his talking. This is the last point you have to know if you want to live like a warrior."

Today's forecast:

Gray with morning showers and then chance of afternoon sun breaks.

Capricorn Horoscopes
(Dec 22 - Jan 19)

Thursday, Sept. 24th, 2009 -- You may feel conflicted now between being out there in the thick of things versus being sequestered away and working in solitude. Neither is a wholly acceptable answer, even if you're thinking you must choose one way or the other today. The first step to realizing your dreams is to imagine a scenario where you are under the spotlight, yet still get to be alone when you need it most.

Wow- another happy ending...

It's so rare that the 911 Parrot Alert list has two such stories in such a short time, birds being lost for a year or more being returned to their original families, that I thought I'd post this one, too. Good things do happen in the world and it's important to remember this what with all the bad news we're fed all the time. Read on here...

"On August 20, 2009 I was asked to foster a Double Yellow Headed Amazon. The young man that had this Amazon committed suicide and they needed to do something with this parrot. The first thought they had was Animal Control. Then someone said, "I know someone that will take care of her until we decide what to do with her." That someone was me.

When I went to pick her up I told them I needed a little information about her. They gave me very little, as they knew nothing at all about her, except she was his bird. But they did know this about her, she was found somewhere between 3-5 years ago!

When they told me this, I told them that someone maybe looking for her. I lost a Grey 4 years ago and still look day and night in the papers and online. If I am not looking, Mic may never get home.

They thought I was crazy thinking that someone may still be searching for this little one. But I thought there just maybe another crazy person out there like me that won't give up.

I took her home and cared for her for about three weeks all the time doing a quiet search, as she wasn't mine yet. At the end of three weeks they told me that she was mine and I could do with her what I wanted.

I knew then that the search really had to begin now to get her home. I was just hoping that her family hadn't given up on her though. They just about have to be looking for this miracle to happen.

I want to thank Pam Waldron and Retta for their help and advice in helping to get this little one home.

I posted her every where online that I could find. I called and left messages with every vet in the phone book. An ad was run in three papers in NC.My friend Nancy Heffernan helped by placing her in three papers in SC . We tried to do a legband search also, but came up with nothing.

Nancy got several calls in SC. I got several here, but none matched her description. In fact one lady told me this evening that I will be arrested in the morning for not giving her back her bird! You got to get the crazy call also!

I was kind of thinking that well maybe we won't be getting this little one home after all. She has been in the paper for two weeks and no calls are even coming close to being her. I guess I will just go ahead and keep her. She is a little sweetie!

About 6:30 this evening a man called me and said, "I lost a DYH Amazon about 4 years ago". The more he talked the more I thought this is his little girl. I asked if he had a band number and he said "I don't, but let me call the breeder". He called me back about 5 minutes later with her band number. I was shocked and so was he. I told him, "I have your little girl!" "This is her!"

He said "Can I come and get her right now?" I said "Of course!"

He showed up about 7:40 to get her. She looked shocked when she saw him. He was able to go up and put his arms around her and she was responding to him. He said "Puff up for Daddy". She did and she repeated "Puff up for Daddy!"

There is no doubt about it this is his little girl. He lost her about 4 years ago while on the way to the vets to get her wings clipped. She escaped through the door. For 4 years she has been living in the same town, Gastonia, NC. They never knew what happened to her, until tonight when they called an ad in the paper just to check to see if it could possibly be Eunice! Guess what? It was Eunice and she is home tonight finally after 4 years! Miracles do still happen!

-Jayne Stafford"

It's Ranzo's hatchday today. He would have been nine years old. Boy, do we miss that little guy. Here is a favorite of my pictures of him. It doesn't show him in great detail but it does show a bit of life with him in the silver VW. This was a typical morning scene with breakfast for him and coffee for me in bed. I'd post more but this is all that's fit to print from my computer. Maybe dadgaderie will have some others to upload.

Quotes...

"The greatest friend of the soul is the unknown. Yet we are afraid of the unknown because it lies outside our vision and our control. We avoid it or quell it by filtering it through our protective barriers of domestication and control. The normal way never leads home." -John O'Donohue.

"When we get out of the glass bottles of our ego and when we escape like squirrels turning in the cages of our personality and get into the forests again, we shall shiver with cold and fright but things will happen to us so that we do not know ourselves. Cool, undying life will rush in, passion will make our bodies taut with power. We shall stamp our feet with new power and old things will fall down, we shall laugh and institutions will curl up like burnt paper." D. H. Lawrence.

Truth in advertising.

Well, an interesting day. I got up way too early, did some meditations, kept getting visions of running so I finally caved, put on my very funny five-finger shoes and ran around the outside edge of the baseball field in the park across the street, twice. It felt... giggly good...

The grass was wet and soaked through my shoes and felt marvelous, almost as if I really were running barefoot. I lost my breath, caught it, lost it and then caught it again. I really did giggle. I ended with sitting on a lovely rock and saw the tiniest baby snake I've ever seen sliding through the grass at my feet. It was a very dark gray and had a sort of collar in cream. It caught sight of me when I moved and panicked so I left it to its own devices. Any snake, let alone a baby snake, that can survive the desert of lawn near a baseball diamond deserves respect. I'm pleased with my tiny run because a) I did it at all, and, b) my knees don't hurt. I have done a lot of isometric exercises over the last three thousand miles to strengthen my inner thighs and lower abdominals to prevent my knees from hurting and it seems to have worked. Yay me!

Then I made bacon and eggs which dadgaderie and I scarfed up before he went back to work on a new and very exciting project (stay tuned, P & D friends/fans!) and I went, you guessed it, shopping.

As we're far from our familiar home turf I asked a friend for a recommendation for local shopping which I got, googled and found quite easily because of our new Tom Tom. I can't say enough good about this marvelous little computer! In all the many years of driving we've done together dadgaderie has always been the navigator, mainly because I seem to have lost all my navigation chops when I stopped motorcycling. I have never even tried to use the several map programs he's used so successfully over the years- which had finally failed us by lack of up-grades and a lack of customer care for us Mac users. A thumb to the nose at the makers of Route 66 which was a wonderful program until it crapped out on us last year by refusing to work at all with our Mac system 10.whatever and only barely worked on my older iBook. dadgaderie tried a couple of other things, neither of which worked at all well and then spotted a special deal on reconditioned Tom Toms. We bought it and it was instantly user-friendly, guided us right out of the box to a gig and today it took me shopping without a hitch without dadgaderie to run it!

Poor guy. :)

I only bought one thing for myself, though honestly I tried really, really hard to buy new sandals- there just was nothing nice at all. I didn't even buy the 1/2 price Doc Martens, which were really hard to walk away from. They were black and comfy and so asexually butch...

Pardon me. Where was I? Oh, yes-

What I bought was a pair of yoga pants by a company called Yoga Girl which is where the title of this entry comes into play. I don't know how many of you out there have tried on a pair of stretch pants lately but the look is not favorable on those of us who don't exercise enough, sit too much and have shortish legs. Add in the VPL of non-specialty underpants and... well, the look is not exactly what I think of as fortunate. The tag on these plain black pants made extravagant claims about my satisfaction if I put them on, so, since they were only $13.00 (I was at Ross, aka "Cross-dress for Less") I found the fitting rooms and took the plunge.

They looked great. More to the point, *I* looked great AND they were comfortable- none of that horrible python-like gripping I've experienced with other garments euphemistically termed "smoothers." Even my non-specialty underpants were barely noticeable. I hemmed and hawed... I have taken exactly one yoga class in my life (which I loved) and don't have any yoga in the immediate future... but they made me look great, were cheap, comfortable and would go with every gig top I have. And if I wanted to do yoga I'd be ready.

So, despite the heat and humidity I now have a very nice pair of new gig pants for the fall. *Little happy dance is me!*

And the Tom Tom got me to the mall, to Whole Foods and back to the condo without a single hitch (except for the one I created myself by selecting the wrong Silver Springs- VA instead of MD) and in time for dadgaderie to show me the new neat thing he's been working on and then make dinner by a reasonable hour. *See me do another little happy dance.*

Okay, it's late and dadgaderie and I need to chat a bit about this new project and some other stuff, too. kudrasslipper has some very interesting dvds in her collection...
